Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn held back tears in his first court appearance on murder charges in the fatal shooting of his wife, Ashley.

“I am not a risk,” Flynn said during the Friday hearing in Miami County Municipal Court.

The one-time reality television contestant appeared remotely and told the judge he just wanted to “take care of his daughters,” TMZ reported.

His lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on Flynn’s behalf, and asked for a preliminary hearing to be scheduled for later this month.

Flynn was arrested on Feb. 19 after authorities said he shot and killed Ashley in their Ohio home, while their two daughters were asleep.

Cops say Flynn tried to stage the murder as a home invasion burglary gone wrong. Ashley was found with at least one gunshot wound to the head and two spent shells on the floor.

A mug shot showed an exhausted-looking Flynn with bags under his eyes and a dour expression.

He was being held on a $2 million bond.
