A laugh-out-loud blooper reel captures Robin Williams at his best, cracking up on the set of Sesame Street while trying to film a simple scene with Elmo. What was supposed to be a quick, easy take turned into pure comedy gold as Robin’s wild energy and Elmo’s innocent charm bounced off each other like two kids in a candy store. Even the crew couldn’t keep a straight face. The footage comes from the 1991 special Big Bird’s Birthday or Let Me Eat Cake, and watching it now feels like peeking into a moment of pure joy—Robin Williams being Robin Williams, turning even a children’s show taping into unforgettable magic.

A hilarious blooper reel shows the great chemistry Robin Williams has with Elmo while filming a simple scene. It was part of the 1991 Sesame Street special called “Big Bird‘s Birthday or Let Me Eat Cake.”

The scene started with the bright red furry Elmo sitting on a tall box. When Robin Williams walks into the frame, he and Elmo greet each other. In his hand, he was carrying a long stick.

Elmo notices the stick and asks Robin what he’s gonna do with it. Robin says that there’s a lot he can do with it. Then at this point, Robin did what he did best, which was improvised.

He first pretended it was a hockey stick, and he was a goalie. Then he used it as a baton to conduct an orchestra. He thanked Madonna for a lovely lingerie melody.

Then he realized he couldn’t say that on Sesame Street, so he walked out, and laughs erupted from the audience. Elmo looks down at the floor as Robin leaves the scene.

At the end of the bit, Robin handed Elmo the stick. Elmo said, “Thank you, Mr. Robins.” Robin noticed that Elmo got his name wrong, and he took the stick back and quickly left.

Elmo was embarrassed. He curled into a ball and disappeared into the box. The audience was still laughing when Elmo’s eyes peeked out from the box. With his silly voice, he said, “I only had three lines!”
